A 30-second brief: date and last entry first
Before choosing halls to visit, check whether the palace opens on your date and when admissions stop. Treat hanbok rental and photography as additional time, not part of the route's walking allowance.
The admission and hours below concern general visits. They do not replace separate night-opening or festival ticket conditions. We have not verified live ticket availability or crowd levels.
- Date → Tuesday closure and holiday changes
- Arrival → allow time between the metro exit and admission
- Route → start short and decide whether to extend
- Return → plan food, rest and the final journey separately
Admission, hours and access in one table
Use this table for an ordinary visit. Regular schedules can have exceptions, so check current official notices before departure.

40, 60 or 90 minutes: a starting point, not a promise
The official visitor page offers 40-, 60- and 90-minute outlines. For a first visit, choose a short route through central spaces and extend it only if energy and time allow. The stated duration is not a guarantee for children, photography queues or rest stops.
The 40-minute outline connects Heungnyemun, Yeongjegyo, Geunjeongjeon, Sajeongjeon, Sujeongjeon and Gyeonghoeru. Choose the ceremonial courtyard and pond-side views as anchors rather than trying to study every hall. Viewing an exterior does not imply access to separately managed interiors.

A half-day plan built around one palace
This is an editorial planning suggestion, not an official programme. Arrange metro arrival, admission and toilets, a short palace route, a break and a meal. If renting hanbok, add changing and return time outside the palace visit.
For children, agree on two scenes to look for before leaving. Plan pauses and shorten the walk based on remaining energy for the return journey. We have not researched individual restaurants' opening or waiting times and do not present any as bookable recommendations.
- Short visit: central route, a rest stop and a nearby meal
- Photography: fewer stops, extra rental and return time
- With a stroller: check the official amenities map
- When tired: protect the return journey instead of adding distant halls
Editorial planning advice
KRW 3,000 is not everyone's admission price
The listed individual paid-adult general admission is KRW 3,000. Adult charging bands are ages 25–64 for Koreans and 19–64 for foreign visitors. Listed age exemptions include Koreans aged 24 or younger or 65 and older, and foreigners aged 18 or younger or 65 and older; bring the relevant proof.
Calculate eligibility for each person rather than multiplying the headcount by 3,000. Two visitors paying the standard adult price total KRW 6,000 for general admission only. Transport, food, hanbok rental and special activities are separate; this is not a whole-trip budget.
Hanbok admission: check the outfit before renting
Free entry is not guaranteed merely because an outfit came from a rental shop. The official guidance requires a qualifying jacket with a closing collar and a skirt or trousers. A jacket with jeans, or hanbok lower garments with a T-shirt, are listed as non-qualifying examples.
Before choosing a rental, check whether the complete outfit matches the official criteria; ask admission staff if uncertain. Rental cost may exceed the ticket price, so treat hanbok as an experience choice rather than an assumed saving. No rental shop's pricing or terms have been verified for this article.
Car or metro: consider access as well as the parking fee
Official directions list an approximately two-minute walk from Line 3 Gyeongbokgung station exit 5. That estimate does not include platform-to-exit travel, lifts or admission queues. Visitors using mobility aids should check the official map and station access rather than relying on an exit number alone.
The official small-car parking tariff starts at KRW 3,000 for one hour, then KRW 800 per additional ten minutes. Small cars using surface parking are charged the larger-vehicle rate. Check discount eligibility, live capacity and event restrictions separately; a parking space does not guarantee immediate admission.
What to change for rain, heat or event days
Palace visits involve substantial outdoor walking. In rain, reduce the route rather than adding more halls, and allow for wet surfaces, umbrellas and bags. Do not assume every interior is freely accessible; check the opening of any intended rest stop separately.
On festival days, check general admission and individual programme bookings independently. Standard opening hours do not guarantee a night event or special interior visit. Confirm closure exceptions, last admission, the programme booking page and your return journey before finalising the plan.
